Unhappy Where did my backup go?

My battery time dipped quite substantively and I was advised
by Carrier to take a backup and restore my iPhone4. (4.3.2)
I did so, but when I was finished I found that all my photos, music
and videos were gone. I can't find the friggin´backup to see if
the stuff might be retrievable from there and I'm fearing out a bit.

Does anyone know where the backup is located?

Even if you find the backup, the folder is not going to be readable by a certain user. It's simply a bunch of folders with folder names that are gibberish. Only iTunes understands what the folders and files mean. The only way to successfully restore to a backup is via iTunes by right clicking on your iDevice in the left menu and by pressing "Restore From Backup".

Is an iPhone different than an iPod Touch in this respect. Because I've never lost all my videos or songs, due to my iPod Touch battery running out. And I've had my iPod Touch basically lose all it's power (I've left it sit dead over a week). When I charged it up after sitting dead for a week, everything was still there.

After all it's flash memory, it keeps the info, even when power isn't running to it, doesn't it? Just like a USB thumb drive.

It shouldn't be different. Something like that is possible if the flash memory is faulty or the iPod Touch is treated very badly to damage the hardware.
