A lot of you have now had about a day with your new iPad 2 and I was wondering whether you can provide a general review - 1st impression.
Is it really worth the upgrade? Is it that much faster? Lighter? Is there noticeable light bleed at the edges compared to the original? Are the 2 screens similar: just as bright, just as sharp?
After spending less than 24 hours with iPad 2 here are my first impressions.
While the first iPad wasn't slow, everything on iPad 2 moves noticeably faster.
The screen, while the same size is a lot nicer in terms of brightness. Not sure if its a different manufacturer or what but my side by side comparison between iPad 1 and 2 shows a far brighter screen... despite the fact both display settings are at the same brightness level.
Cameras: if your sole reason for upgrading is to take photos, don't bother. Camera quality is atrocious. And while I suppose the reason was to keep e iPad cost down, I for one am surprised apple would release a product with such a shoddy camera. That said, video, particularly FaceTime is super cool. The technology really is amazing and the ability to so efforletlessly call friends /family is rather remarkable.
Weight isn't much difference, but the iPad feels a lot nicer in ones hands thanks to the thinner design.
And while ridiculously overpriced, the smart cover is totally worth the hype!

Hope that helps.

Agree on everything pretty much. I do think that you can feel the difference in weight though.
Love the smart cover, just need to find something to protect the back...

Checked it out at the local BestBuy today. When scrolling on a couple of websites, there still seems to have that lag and checkerboard pattern I thought the extra RAM was suppose to eliminate that. Maybe there were other apps running in the background?

Yeah, I've noticed it's not quite there yet, but you see the loading less often. And more importantly, it's not randomly reloading pages when you switch between different views. It might be the iPad 3 when you can see the tablet truly behaving like a desktop, assuming it has 1GB or more of RAM.
Well I had promised myself to wait till I had a chance to play with one first... Went to the apple store this morning and after about 15 min playing around I was sold... There is not single feature that makes a big enough difference but the combination of all the little improvements in terms of speed, ram, thinner easier to hold/grip, lighter, and FaceTime was enough for me...
I did end up downgrading slightly to the 32 gb model from the 64 but I'm pretty sure I can manage by being a little more selective about what I sync... And hopefully if I manage to sell my old one my upgrade cost should only be 250 ish give or take... If not... Mothers day is coming up soon
I'll be getting one mid week hopefully, but from the units I've held? The difference in thickness, and in particular the flat back, is far more comfortable to hold. Combine with a folded up smart cover and it's far easier to hold one handed.

I'd disagree, as the camera is pretty fine for video (720p is less than a megapixel after all). As long as you go in knowing that then you're fine.

+ auto shut off with the smart case.
I agree with the above. Not a huge change but well worth it .
Agreed all the upgrade as mentioned above, just same as this full review: iPad 2 review | Electricpig
But I still to stick with the 1 gen iPad and wait for the iPad 3, yeah, hope it will have 1GB or more of RAM.
