Canada Post Launches Free Application For iPhone, iPad And iPod Touch

Just in time for the holidays and for shipping out all those joy-filled parcels tied with bows, Canada Post has announced the launch of a free application for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch that will provide customers and gift senders with convenient and easy access to two of the most popular web tools at CanadaPost.ca.

The new application, which is now available for download at the iTunes App Store, enables customers to track their packages and find nearby post offices, either by typing in an address or by using their device's GPS feature. Track a Package and Find a Post Office are two of the most frequently used tools on Canada Post's website - with a combined monthly average of more than 4.25 million uses.

"Our customers are on the go, and we aim to provide them with convenient, easy access to our products and services by keeping abreast of current trends and new technologies. We have seen an increase in the use of mobile devices to access our website, and we expect demand for mobile-enabled services to continue to grow," says Louis O'Brien, Senior Vice-President and Chief Customer Officer at Canada Post. "We're pleased to be able to launch this application just in time for the holidays as this is the busiest time of year for many of our customers."

The free application is now available for download at the iTunes App Store. Learn more at www.canadapost.ca/iphone. Blackberry users apparently are getting a lump of coal from Santa as they'll have to wait until next year to get a similar app.

While it's about time they offered an app, I sort of wonder why they bothered, given that Delivery Status offers push notification and syncs with your computers, and you can find post offices by typing it into the Maps search field.

Still, at least they're embracing new tech eventually.

When I'm on the go, I'd much rather take out my iPhone, launch an app and click one or two buttons than open up Google Maps and manually type what I am looking for and pinch and zoom. The attached image is what Google Maps brings up when I search for "Canada Post". Half the pin drops aren't valid post offices and who knows if they're current.

It's kinda nice but needs more integration within iOS:
for example,
when I have a mail notification would be nice to open the tracking number in that app to track the package. Also, it's not really 'up to speed' in updating department (compare that to FedEx for example).

About time they launched it, though. Better than nothing

Fantastic. I wish they would spend some time on training their staff to properly sort and deliver properly addressed mail to the correct recipients. Now that is something to get excited about. Instead, maybe they can make an app that shows me which neighbor has my mail today.

This Canada Post app will be useful for the tracking of my shipments, especially when I'm on the road. It seems that the apps just keep getting better and better. Now with (the much needed) iOS 4.2 folder capabilities the landscape has increased and these productivity apps will no longer be lost in the shuffle. Great move forward.

Too funny, while downtown at work today and older asian woman came in the store and asked me where the nearest post office was. Ha ha... I thought, and launched the app and told her there was one at the shoppers just a mere 2 blocks over!

The story would of ended cooler, but she didn't speak english well, and didn't really understand my instructions. She was insisting she was just there and that they had moved.

Anyways, I just walked by it on my lunch break and it was there.

Oh well, app was still pretty cool.
