Can you transfer a backup to another computer?

My boyfriend backed up his iPhone and installed iOS4, but now it won't restore. The backup is there though, on the computer (it's a Windows PC). Can the backup be transferred to another computer, with a USB drive or something? Or would this not work? Thanks.

I would think so. I know you can restore from created .ipsw files when jailbreaking, I think you just have to say Restore from Backup and maybe Shift-Click that in iTunes?

you could look into moving from PC to Mac on the Apple website, specifically at transferring your iTunes account, information and files - including music, videos, and...backups.

to be clear...after installing iOS4 it was running okay, but now you want to restore iOS3 [or whatever the backup OS was]

You've gotta wonder, though, if you'll run into the same problem on a Mac.

Good question though.

No, I'm just trying to restore the phone's backup - pictures, contacts, apps, etc. The iOS installed fine but I get that error when trying to get everything back on the phone.
