activating a phone for someone else

like the title says, i have a friend who wants the iphone 4, but he works weekdays at 5 am (contractors are busy guys) and because of that he can't line up at the apple stores in the morning, is it possible for me to go to the apple store and wait in line and get an activation for him?

I don't think so, assuming you are talking about a Hardware upgrade. (at least with Rogers/Fido) I know they asked for ID from both me and my buddy, along with the usual account info and pin. I think this is because it is charged to your bill with Rogers/Fido, IIRC this might be different for Telus/Bell, as I think you get a bill credit with them and pay in store.

He can phone rogers and make you a primary contact and you will get a pin number. Then you go into the store to upgrade they will ask you who its for and what your pin number is and it will be good to go. Just phone rogers.

What do you mean by pin number? Because I don't remember using a pin number for my upgrade

You don't need a pin, your friend just needs to phone Rogers to add your name as someone who has authorization to make changes on their account (only takes a couple minutes). My Dad and I did that for eachother in case one of us gets lucky when we go by a Rogers or Apple store. You'll tell them that it's for your friend's account and phone number, and when you show them your ID they'll see that you have authorization to make changes. I've never heard of this pin "number".

You definitely can pick up an iPhone for them.
