Strategy for new customer getting iPhone?

OK, now all the threads are talking about people getting phones from the Retentions Depts. of Rogers and Fido. That does me no good.

I'm a Bell dumbphone customer and based on what everyone has been saying online, I want to switch to Rogers.

Anybody have any suggestions for getting an iPhone apart from quitting my job to hang out in front of Rogers stores every morning? I need to get it by Sept 30th as I want the 6 Gig plan.

I see that Rogers has a refer a customer promotion going on now. Was thinking of finding a friend to refer me, and when Rogers contacts me, I'll tell them I'll be happy to be a new customer if they can get me a $@#! iPhone 4. Think that might work like the people having success with Retentions?

Then again, if I can get an iPhone faster through Bell, maybe I should just stick with them. I haven't read much feedback about how Bell customers are doing getting phones. In my visits to multiple stores today, I had a gut feeling I'll be able to get one faster through Bell. But not sure how much negotiating power I'll have with Bell retentions (which I hear, sucks at the best of times) when I can't get an iPhone elsewhere in order to threaten to leave.

YES. Love this post.

I'm going from Telus to Fido and really want to get it ASAP. I've lined up a couple times and no luck. I don't mind lining up.. but I can't line up in the "hope" of getting a shipment.

my friend is a Fido customer so he's kind of referring me but not officially.

any tips?

Thanks, but I'm in Ottawa. Fido, you say? I won't qualify for any retentions deals from Rogers or Fido but at least with Rogers I'm already with them for Internet so I'll end up with 5% off both.

LoL

We were thinking of switching to Bell. I know you can pre-order through bell, essentially guaranteeing you an iPhone. We ended up staying with Rogers as they were able to come up with a decent plan we liked. Can't pre-order with Rogers though.

As for getting the iPhone, I essentially went to 3 different Rogers locations around my home a couple of times a day until they were in stock. I happen to have been on holidays and was just working around the house anyway. Got one the one day and got my wife's a few days later. I pulled up and there was a UPS truck parked in the parking lot, a good sign I thought. Sure enough, they had just got a shipment in.

Unlocked phones are starting to ship, if that's even a consideration for you.

I will follow every UPS truck I see.

And I'm going to call Bell and see what kind of deal they can give me. I've currently got a good corporate voice plan with a ridiculously expensive system access fee. Last time I tried to argue it, they told me the only way to lose the system access fee was to get rid of the good corporate rate...which would have had me paying more overall. Stupid Bell.
