So, I was shocked when I used the Rogers upgrade eligibility tool to see that the iPhone was selling for $159/$269. I assumed that was because I was a current Rogers customer.
However, the Bell site is now showing $159.99/$269.99 for new customers:
the true price of the iphone is not cheaper then in the US, it is actually more expensive. However, the canadian price has dropped by about $50 (full, unsubsidized price) relative to what it was for the previous generation. This price drop (based on our currency being stronger then it was last year) is partially being passed onto the consumer when we sign a 3 year contract as opposed to the AT&T standard of 2 years.
It's not. Rogers is just eating some of the cost to get people to use them. If they were still the only one in the game, it would be $299 guaranteed. Now that Bell and Telus entered the picture, the pressure is on to keep attracting new customers.

Haha, you're right.
But it's still nice to have a price drop!
Edit: Also, upgrade prices seem to be decent and available each year, so having a price drop is a bit of icing on the cake, especially since we know 3-year contracts aren't going anywhere.
