Okay, so I think it's safe to say that the members of eh Mac are somewhat more devoted to apple products and deserve to get our hands on the iPhone 4 on launch day more than others :P
SO, if anyone here would like to share their previous iphone launch day success or fail experience with everyone, some info might come in handy this friday
Potential experiences such as:
1) how long was the lineup? When did you arrive? What part of Canada? Which carrier?
2) how many units do you think they had in stock?
3) how long did it take to set up and walk out the store?
4) what factors should you consider before picking the place to buy the iphone
Cheers

Well i lined up for the 3GS at rogers about 2 hours befofe, and was met with about 10-30 ppl within an hour. Then a nice braindead rogers employee that came out and informed us of that they were only selling iphones to new contracts customers. Rather then fight with him on how he couldent do that i went to the 2 other close rogers to find everywhere sold out. Anywhoo im glad to say ill be going around 5-6am to the apple store hope that should be enough time before. Whos planning the toronto apple store ehmac meetup?! Personally plan to go to sherways applestore.

I'm going to assume you were at a Toronto Rogers store, because 10-30 people 2 hours before (the store opened?) is kind of a big lineup...
Biggest mistake I made was calling Rogers to order my 3GS. The best thing I ever did was make a personal shopping appointment at the Apple Store at Sherway and walk out with my 3GS.
My second biggest mistake was waiting almost a month after launch to do that, by repeatedly believing Rogers CSRs that kept telling me "We're getting more stock in a few days and it's set to ship!" Yeah right
I guess the only unknown this time is if the Apple Stores will be selling carrier locked units or just the full price factory unlocked units. I think I read in one of the threads the UK stores were only selling unlocked phones and you had to go to a carrier to get the subsidized units.
1. First in line, so no waiting. I arrived at around 3:30 pm. A Rogers Plus store.
2. No idea.
3. Took about 30-45 minutes, not very long. Can't remember exactly.
All in all it was a pleasant experience. I was expecting more people but the place was empty. With that said, more and more people showed up about 20 minutes after I got there, and many more as I was leaving.
I am hoping for the same this time around, but might have to go a little earlier than that this time.

So I do have a chance at getting one on launch day. I have to go with my dad so I'm hoping they're not all out by the time he goes on his lunch break.
call a day ahead and ask if that store will be carrying the iphone 4.
It would be a good idea to keep more then one stores phone number so in case if you arrive at one store and they are sold out you could phone another one before you get there and find out if they have any left or not.
I didn't stand in a line and got the iphone 3G that weekend of launch and they had a few left in stock at fido, i think mostly because the population wasn't so much then in my city. Try going to a carrier store that not a lot of people will be at, thats what i'm doing. iPhone i get the 32GB.

I bought my iPhone 3GS on June 27 last year at the Apple Store in West Edmonton Mall. One hour total, walk in, walk out. That includes the time it took to set it up with Rogers online right in the store. Nothing to pay as it all came on the first bill. No shenanigans and no shortages of iPhones either. If you want to led astray and promised something they may not be able to deliver, by all means go to a Rogers/Fido outlet. My guess is that all new iPhones at the Apple Store will cost you $199 but you set up the account with your carrier before you leave the store. Who would pay $600 for an unlocked smart phone? Somebody who craves a Nexus One?

Baaaah... posts like this make me nervous!
"New contracts only" to heck with that noise... if I give you $xxx.xx, you give me a PHONE!
I can't understand how they can pick and choose which people get to buy a product from them!!! Sure, they want you to sign a contract so they can get you locked in, and us shlubbs already on contract; well, they already HAVE us don't they!!
There better not be any shannanigans like that for the iPhone4, because I have a plan to be first in line where i'm going, and the last thing I need is to be refused at the desk because of some B.S. policy!
(If I would have known there was this chance, I would have waited to sell my 3GS!!! ...someone already put a $50 deposit down and will be picking the phone up on the 30th so I HAVE to get an iPhone 4!!!!)
iPhone 3G: Rogers Video in Brampton, ON. Was 2nd in line. Arrived @ 6:30am. Store opened @ 10am. Left @ 1:30pm with black 16GB. those who remember the 3G launch will surely remember the delay of trying to activate. Price: $399 + $50 credit. Sold iPhone 8GB for $200.
iPhone 3GS: I was going to skip this one, but called ROGERS on launch day. They told me I was able to get the 32GB model for $299, so I said "do it." and two weeks later I had my 3GS. Sold iPhone 3G for $450. No line up
I am hoping to order the iPhone 4 32GB online @ the Apple Store.
