Do you think iPod sales will go down after the release of the iPad?
Well the release of the iPad is coming. I was wondering whether after the release the sales for iPod's will lower down? Because a 64gb iPod Touch is around $400 but would you pay an extra $100 for a 16gb iPad? Tell me your thoughts.

hmm... really never thought about that, well I guess the iPod Touch was a good addition to the iPod family while it lasted. I still don't see why they would take it out, they might keep it to see how it is doing in terms of sales against the iPad, because so far I think it is the most popular selling iPod.

I don't think iPod touch will go anywhere. Sales will probably go down a bit but It'll probably have the same effect on laptop sales too. It probably won't have much of an effect on other iPods because no-one is going to lug around an iPad just to listen to music with.

Meh, can't disagree more.
I know this is your line, but do you own an iPod Touch? I do. After just using it extensively while on vacation in Mexico (almost always in my pocket) I can tell you the iPad is not an iPod Touch replacement. They are for different uses. One is extremely portable, an on the go device the other for chillin in the living room or by the pool.

In fact I have the Shuffle (for walking, stationary exercise), the nano (for quick-take videos and keeping my kids quiet the odd time with videos), the Touch (for apps/games and Wi-Fi) and since last June my 3G S (who wants to carry a Touch and a cell?). To this day I still use the Shuffle and nano for purposes descibed, but since my iPhone, the Touch has been gathering dust.
Now, for an extra $100 who wouldn't favour an iPad for all that it can do over a Touch? In the future, the only way the Touch will still be a viable option is if Apple 'll build 'em with a video/camera. Time will tell...
i think it's almost certain the touch will get a camera in the next update (and maybe a price drop).
it's not going anywhere. it's still a good small form factor for people who don't have an iphone (although i agree it's redundant for anyone WITH an iphone).

But you are assuming then that everyone who has a cell phone has an iPhone. Of course if you have an iPhone, having an iPod Touch is a little redundant. But not everyone wants an iPhone.
In the case of my sister, she just got a new cell phone which is not an iPhone (and has no interest in getting an iPhone), but she does have an iPod Touch. She just wanted a normal cell phone that makes calls and does text messaging, and has no interest in having constant access to Facebook or the web, not to mention the expensive data plan. She uses her iPod Touch on her everyday commute on public transit to listen to music (and sometimes in the car with an FM tuner), and the occasional app that doesn't require web access, or when she has a wifi connection. An iPod Touch fits in her pocket or neatly in a centre console in a car. An iPad does neither of these.
