iPhone App Store - Sending in Your App

Some iPhone developers have been complaining about getting their apps into the App Store. Here is a quote from the very start of an article on the issue:

Quote:
don't think Apple realizes how badly the App Store approval process is broken. Or rather, I don't think they realize how much it matters that it's broken.
I'm just starting to learn iPhone development. I'm not looking forward to this hurtle.

My idea's is to have each developer or developer group rated. Developers with high ratings get to update their apps with little or no interference from Apple. New developers would be vetted more thoroughly until they develop a track record.

Customer ratings could also be used to establish which developers get to update their apps without interference from Apple.

Does any one else have good ideas on how to fix this problem?

The problem with any ideas we offer is that Apple can (and likely will) choose to ignore them. The iTunes Store is their baby and only the parents decide which ways to let the child grow. Even with developers (a very small number) giving up on iPhone development because of the flawed approval process, it hasn't had any visual impact or serious acknowledgement from Apple.

There would have to be a major revolt with big developers actually pulling their products from the Apple store and then only developing for other platforms like Android or WebOS. Then and only then, Apple might take notice and change their ways. I wouldn't hold your breath...

I think the underlying issue is their bottomline. As long as the App store is generating sufficient revenue for Apple it's unlikely things will change a whole lot. Even before apps came around, Apple openly said their iTunes Store was there to make money.

Now Apple may make changes, over time, but let's be honest, there is a ton of garbage on the app store, but still a lot of great applications. By and large, the system is successful. Apple's unlikely to make a drastic change and risk upsetting the balance that is now the App Store.
