hi
i am struggling with Rogers hardware upgrade policy.
Since I want to upgrade my smart phone (n95 8gb) to iphone, i called rogers today and asked them what i want.
when i asked them to upgrade my phone, they told me i have to wait another
1 year in order to qualify for their upgrade program. ( I've been with rogers for 1 year. they said I have to spend 2 years in order to qualify).
In this case, is there anyway i can upgrade my phone?
As far as i know, all i can do is just cancel my existing phone account and get a
new one for iphone. But then, i have to pay cancellation fee $500.
If i call rogers retention centre, will they be able to help?
please help me!

Did you not sign a three year agreement?
It is a legal contract to pay!
So two years is a generous split no?
If you want to break your contract, pay the bucks!

I"m having a similar "contract" problem with Bell. I'd love to leave them to get my iPhone from rogers but for now I have to wait to switch. Poor sad me.
Upgrade to a non-smartphone (which you can do after one year; it's two years to upgrade to a smartphone from a smartphone). Sell the phone. Buy an iPhone outright.
Or call their retentions line and see how you do.
Research at redflagdeals (an ehMac sponsor) here (read the first page and last 4 or 5 pages in each thread):
However has it right. If you desperately want the iPhone, you should just buy the iPhone and recoup some of the costs by selling your current phone. Otherwise you'd have to wait. Also it doesn't hurt to call retention... it's like 649, you might get lucky and get someone who's willing to help you out. Just Imagine!

I agree (with your agreement), but want to add: calling retentions is like Lotto 649, except the call is free, and you can 'enter' as many times as you wish/have patience for.

A response to my fourth e mail to Rogers ... I prefer email as one has a 'record' of one's exchange ...
In your two recent emails, you have requested a confirmation on whether
the 6GB data plan and the promotional pricing for the iPhone will be
honored if you order the iPhone now and do not receive it before after
the promotion has expired as the device is currently out of stock.
We understand your concern in this matter and can assure you that we
will be able to assist you with this.
We would like to inform you that it is the 6GB data plan promotion that
expires on July 31st. The promotional pricing for the iPhone itself does
not have a confirmed expiry date yet and we are unable to retrieve any
information on when it will expire. We apologize that you did not
receive the information you requested in the previous email and that you
received incorrect information on the promotional iPhone pricing.
In regards to your inquiry, we do try to honor the promotions we offer
when they have expired if the expired promotion is dependent on other
products that are not available at the time the promotion is still
ongoing. However we are unable to guarantee this and apologize for any
inconvenience this may cause you.
Am I the only one trying to work out what they are saying?
I am by the way, #3 on a wait list with Wireless Wave at the local Costco here on Southern Vancouver Island!

WOW. That email is an amazing piece of literary work. Truly a half baked answer. Pretty much that waiting for the real answer to your question is like 649. Do you guys have Best Buy or Best Buy Mobile out there? Try them! I got my 3gs run around when I tried to buy mine. Rogers doesn't have any. You NEED to make an appointment with Apple. Just walked into a Best Buy Mobile and got it.
Since they don't have a clear idea, I'd say it's up for argument. If they don't honour it, then definitely call them and fight for it.

Oh I intend to.
I have a non smart Sony Ericsson K790.... over 2 years into contract, so upgrade is as new customer as long as buy data plan and up my voice from $25 to $30 a month.
I've read so much on here re differing responses from different reps that I adopted the e mail approach!
No Best Buy Mobil here... do have Future Shop!
Cheers!
