iPod Touch 3.0 question

I have recently upgraded my iPod Touch 2G to version 3.0 and my son is being told through iTunes store (in iTunes) that he can upgrade his for free. How many iPods can be upgraded for the price I paid for my upgrade? From what I understand, each device would cost the same fee.

My understanding, and I can't remember where I read it, is that you only need to pay the fee once and you can upgrade any devices you have.

You're right, it should be $10US per machine, but hey if the kid is getting his free, shut up and smile!
