iPhone Won't Unlock
I just received the iPhone 1st gen (FW 2.0) I bought on eBay a couple of weeks ago. I went 1st gen because a) I would HATE to be locked in to an expensive contract on Rogers to get the 3G and b) I got a good deal on this one.
Anyhoo, when I bought it NOT unlocked, it thought hey, I'm pretty computer savvy and everybody does it. WELL, the $50 to take it to a guy to do it locally is beginning to look pretty nice!
I got the phone (turns out the guy included his ATT SIM card) and started to unlocking. I downloaded PwnageTool 2.0 and the two bootloaders. It goes through that process just fine until I get to the iTunes part. I option-click Restore and choose my custom FW file, it starts working away then comes up with an error saying the iPhone can't be restored because of error 1600. Tried this in both iTunes 7.7.1 and 8. It can be restored to the original 2.0 firmware only in iTunes 8 and works just fine as an iPod Touch.
I'm a little scared to update anything but I'm really not sure what to do. Tried multiple computers, cables, iTunes versions (read somewhere that I will definitely get that error in iTunes 8) and I'm at a loss.
Ideas?
TIA!
