Email Alert

Hi everyone:

My friend purchased the new 3g iphone from Rogers. He set up his sympatico email and it works fine and able to send/receive, etc. The problem he is having and one i'm having trouble figuring out is the email notification alert doesn't work, no sound, no alert when a new email arrives. I set up a yahoo account and set it up on his phone and all email notification alerts work just fine. So my question is, is anyone else experiencing this problem? Is there a work around or a way to fix this issue?

Thank you for any help.

Eric

Hi Sympatico email doesn't have push, meaning you need to schedule the iPhone to intermittently check for new mail. Yahoo mail has push, meaning you will get a notification instantly.

Ok thank you for that. So that in itself prevents the email tone/alert from sounding? The email comes in on it's own with no problem but he physically has to look at the phone to see if there is an email verus being alerted via tone that he has an email. My phone uses push email to and I use sympatico but everytime I get an email, I have a tone that tells me I have new emails.

Thanks again.

Ummm it should give you a notification when it checks for mail and finds something new. Go into mail settings and the push/fetch settings to make sure it's checking periodically. try sending a test mail and set the iphone to 15 minute fetch. It should come through when it checks in 15 minutes.
