WTF? Sounds exciting, but who are they kidding? the iPhone is available for 399 in the states, so I see no reason to mark it up to 799 here just because the RIM products all sell for 600 to 1000. We will get hosed by the rogers monopoly yet again!

I think the story is bogus anyways... but here it is

Anyone can sell the iPhone, but Rogers will be the ONLY carrier

Anyone can SELL the iPhone in Canada. You can buy an unlocked iPhone in Canada right now for $699. But why bother, when Rogers and Apple are THIS CLOSE to closing the deal?

I emailed Rogers last week and this is their reply. Bold items my doing, for clarity.

.

Unfortunately we are unaware when new products and services will be
released until they are launched to the consumer market. We suggest you
visit Rogers.com because when new products are released they
are listed here.

Thank you for contacting Rogers. We appreciate your consideration.

In the course of a service call, I got the same info verbally back in July!

Reply to Rogers:

Git off'n yer fat asses an' git 'er dun!

EDIT: How about if everyone who wants a legit iPhone sends an email every single day (better yet several emails every single day) to Rogers? Still better yet get the personal email address of el jefe at Rogers, so we can tell him personally several time a day..... :D (Probl'y not a good idea to use your Rogers account to do this.. )

A couple of my family members in Queens have iPhones. AT&T has some amazing price plans for those phones. They have the $80.00 plan...unlimited data, unlimited evenings and weekends, 900 anytime minutes and the minutes start rolling over after the first month. The plan and long distance rates are so good, they don't have home phones anymore.

Damn, I'm paying Bell the same money every month for my plan and it's not half as nice as the iPhone plan.

When it comes, it comes, I'm not in a rush. My only hope is that better, more competitive phone plans come with it and encourage some competition between the telecom big boys here.

I travel a bit out of country and I'm always shocked how little other places pay for their cell phone usage. It's nothing short of criminal how our guys have been gouging us. I blame the Canadian closed system we have in place. Bell and Rogers need their rears kicked.
