Seems like the iPod's production strategy is as unique as the iPod itself.

Not really that unique...they design the fancy shell themselves but everything else is outsourced or partnered in. They've done the same thing for other products including their printers and monitors.

Sorry. You're right. I suppose I meant for Apple, themselves, as they historically have handled their own manufacturing. But yes, since Jobs returned he has contracted much out like all the others.
