The advertising in the subway is for the iPod, not the iPod mini.
It might even be foreshadowing for the 4th gen iPod since the pictures have the scroll wheel but no buttons on top. This is if Apple decides to adopt the mini's click wheel with the new pods
" ... Dang. When will Apple ever get the supply and demand problem sorted out? The company seems to do a lousy job compared with competitors. ..."
It's Hitachi. They can't make enough drives to meet demand. Hitachi has set up additional production lines and is now refusing all orders to anyone but Apple, but it will take some time before they can supply drives in sufficient quantities.
Some people are ordering iPod minis and removing the drives in order to use them in cameras, etc and throwing the rest away (they're standard CompactFlash TypeII format). The bare drive sells for $US 150 more than a mini, if you can find one. Hitachi has now stopped selling the bare drives to help overcome the shortage for Apple's contract.
The Creative Muvo in a 4GB version is unavailable in the US and is equally impossible to find in Europe, where it's supposedly available (the first production run was shipped; no other orders have been filled). The 1.5GB version is in short supply worldwide. They also use the Hitachi 1inch drive.
In the UK it sells for GBP 80.00 more than an iPod mini. The US list price is $250, but that's moot as Creative has never shipped any to the US due to supply problems. Some UK resellers are selling it to US customers at $US 513.00 plus shipping, and people are buying.
USED iPod mini's are selling for at least $US 250 and sometimes more.
Would a device such as the iTrip or the iTalk from Griffin Technologies work with an iPod mini as they do with the regular iPods?

I know I am going to regret this question, but what do the 1's and 0's at the bottom of your signature translate to in English?

Tim it shall be. I knew it was code, but it would be as if I started talking Yiddish to you........ a foreign language. Thanks for the translation. Shalom from

In that there are monitors that can be rolled up like a piece of thick plastic sheeting, I don't think we shall have that long to wait. Actually, I held an iPod in my hand for the first time this morning. I don't think that I would want it much smaller.
