Defective headphones; warranty just passed. What to do?
Hi, lately I've noticed that the left channel of my iPod headphones is a lot softer than the right channel. I've tried a different pair of headphones and there's no problem, so there's nothing wrong with the iPod itself. Unfortunately, my warranty just passed in December, so I don't think they would just give me another pair at the Apple store if I took them back. What should I do? Am I forced to buy another pair?
If you ask nicely they very well might give you a new set. That said, you may want to consider investing in another, non-Apple, set of earphones, as Apple's are lacking in the sound-quality department.

The Apple earphones, I find, are 'okay' in sound quality, but the build quality of the headphones themselves are flat-out terrible - it takes very little to break any single part of them (and in other cases, they just stop working for no real reason at all).

There are much better headphones on the market. They can make the difference between having noise pumped into your head, and actually enjoying listening to the music.
By far and away the Koss Porta-Pro are the best headphones for the money on the market today and you can't beat the warranty. Even the Sony ear buds outperform the apple buds... surprising really considering that Apple seems to concentrate more on quality.

I had those headphones before I ended up breaking them. They were really good.
I have a pair of less expensive Sennheiser now and I like them quite a bit. Would have probably purchased a second pair of Koss but couldn't find them where I looked.
