3rd Gen ipod question

Hi all..i have a 3rd gen ipod that came with firewire originally. I have a friend who wants to buy it but he uses windows...no firewire card. Is the 3rd gen ipod able to attach to a pc using the usb addon cable?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Rod

Wikipedia says the 3rd generation iPod supports USB for snycing music only, you'll need firewire to charge. Since it uses the dock connector, does anyone know of an adapter available that would allow it to charge with a plug?

There used to be an Apple power brick that plugged into an outlet and then had a firewire connector (so you could attach a firewire to dock connector cable to charge your iPod from an outlet).

Here's one: http://cgi.ebay.ca/GENUINE-APPLE-iPo...QQcmdZViewItem

They may still sell them on the Apple site...

I have a 3rd Gen iPod, and I use the firewire cable to charge it, but attach it to the usb cable that came with my daughters pink mini to synch it. You can't charge via the usb cable, but if you have the AC adapter, it isn't a problem.

Or you can get one of theses cables. Has a dock connector, USB and FW. USB to your computer, FW to the power brick.

$39.00 for a new one.
