iPod messing up track orders?

My iPod has been doing something interesting lately. I find that for some music, it's not reflecting the track numbers I have stored in iTunes. Like they show up in order on iTunes, but when I access the album on my iPod, they'll be somewhat in order, but random songs won't be in their place. Any answers for this situation?

I've only seen this happen with various artists compilations (mix cd's).

have you tried to highlight the selected tracks in itunes, and in the get info, select compilation ? then resync the ipod

Alright. I messed around with the songs a bit and everything seemed to work fine. Weird though, because I'm not sure that I really changed anything...

But while I remember, what is the purpose of the "Album Artist" label under info in iTunes now?
