Why haven't they come out with a voice recorder that uses the dock connector yet? The older models use the remote connector, which was removed in the new video iPods.
This is actually the only thing keeping me from upgrading! I want to sell my 4G before I upgrade, but I need the recording function.
I want this as well for when I start school in Jan. I might have to pickup a mini-recorder. I am going to talk to the teacher to see if I can create private Podcasts for the class to use as study tools from what I record (Not sure if she will go for it, but its worth an ask, I might as well offer if I am recording it anyway).

Apple doesn't tell companies like Griffin Technology what they are coming out with next. Nor do they tell them when they are removing features or ports that those companies use.
So, when Apple makes changes, it takes time for companies to catch up.
I'm pretty sure Griffin is working on a new version of the iTalk but R&D takes time.
If you want good quality recordings, the iRiver IFP series is the best value. We use them for weddings to capture vows with an external mic. It has a lot of flexibility, much cheaper, but the biggest advantage is the quality is great. It has a built in mic as well, but there a couple online sites selling great external mics for 20-30. It is not a slight difference, it is a huge improvement. The 512 versions for for under 100 on ebay these days.
Shawn, if that's true how did the new iTrip that uses the dock connector of the new iPods come out at virtually the same time?
Becasue Griffin had already been working on putting the iTrip on the Dock Connector - remember that previous versions of the iPod also used the Dock Connector.

But previous versions of iTrip didn't use the dock connector.

Any suggested models for external mics? Which one do you use? There are just too many out there.
