I posted this yesterday on apple site and didn't get a single response so I'm hoping you guys can help.
So, I'm at work here and everyone is using iTunes and sharing playlists and I figured I would plug in my iPod and share all of my playlists also but they don't seem to be able to see it. They can see my default empty iTunes playlists but not the contents of my iPod. Are there restrictions for sharing the iPod playlists or am I just missing something?
I am quite certain you can only share playlists that are part of your 'Library' ... not the iPod. This also applies to podcasts under iTunes 4.9 ... you cannot see them on other machines because they are not part of your 'Library' (they are stored separately in iTunes).
The iPod is simply a 'copy' of the iTunes library it is tied to ... since you are plugging your iPod into a different machine than it is synced to ... I would guess this situation is viewed as a rare case and was not provided for.
I think it will share the iPod Playlists if you have your iPod set to Manual Update instead of Automatic... Can't remember now, and I can't test from here, but maybe someone else can confirm if this is true or not...
