If you were downloading at the time, you've a chance at winning the 10 iPods and the tickets to Coldplay. If not, then sit back and watch the PR machine. I wonder how long it'll take to get to the 1 billion song mark. Despite the hype of 500,000 song's, the iTMS has only recenlty broken even (of course, to date, that hasn't been the point - its driven massive profits on iPod sales).
As for what's next, iTunes 5.0 holds that (no so) little secret.
FWIW, I was downloading at the time (and still am - it's sloooow). The album? Gang of Four: Entertainment! (Remastered).
I was going to download, but then I couldn't find anything I wanted and the time was nearly up so I just sat back and watched it tick over...
Damn iTunes... I found I haven't really downloaded much since the Canada store opened. I really prefer having physical CDs... even more so since my computer died...
Hey, how would one get the songs back that I purchased on iTunes and lost due to the dead computer?
I downloaded a Mozart Requiem album (21 songs) at around the 4,899,999 point (Apple gives out an iPod Mini every 100,000. I'm not interested in the grand prize anyway).
Agree about the iTunes store. I still haven't been able to download:
1) Andrea Bocelli songs
2) Disney songs
3) The better known of Ennio Morricone's music.
4) Many Lloyd-Webber musicals.
I guess they either don't cater to an older audience, or they're still having licensing issues with some publishers.
I think that when you'll connect your new computer (in replacement for the fired one) you will be able to connect to your itms account and download all the songs that you did before. They will be stored in the "Downloaded Songs" folder, (I got the french version so it may be sth else).
