anyone knows if it's possible to charge the ipod while connecting to an external harddrive (powered) through firewire?

the external harddrive i have has 2 6-pin ports and is powered itself. i have one cable connecting it to the 4-pin on my dell and the other one connected to ipod.. however it's not charing while connected. anyone know any tricks? thanks!

I'm worried that the battery may have been "abused."
You got this on eBay, right? It may have been stored for a while without a charge before being sold to you, which isn't good for batteries, and some of the 3Gs had problems to begin with...

Hey! Glad to hear the previous owner is pitching in!
It is puzzling that the high capacity batteries are so far only available for the earlier generations--must be the hot market because so many of the originals would be dying now. I just noticed the ones for the 1G and 2G are 4x the capacity. Somebody on ehMac was saying their iPod was going for 17 hours straight after the replacement.
[edit: here's the thread--it was (( pg )), but I just noticed that you responded to that thread too... oops]
FYI iPod replacement battery works well!
I have a 2G, so should probably get one now--by the time I really need one they'll only have them for the 3G!

hay farfisa, didn't PG say he had it run for 22 hours???

the seller hasn't responded yet, but i'm holding my feedback tight, see how much he's going to throw in.

i'm a little puzzled too about the high capacity batteries.. seems the highest i can buy now is 850mah for 3G's versus the 2200mah for 1/2G's. that's huge difference!!!

I had an issue with my 3G iPod when I first bought it it didn't hold a charge. Apple told me to first drain the battery to dead. Then wip the drive clean and do a fresh install of the latest firmware and lo and behold my iPod had normal battery life.

Just a thought before you spend the cash.
