Gotta get Ipad Mini 2 back to IOS9

I had an Ipad Mini 2 running IOS 9.3.3 which worked fine with Itunes on the Macbook/Mini running 10.7.5. Proving that no good deed goes unpunished, I loaned my Ipad Mini 2 to a friend who was going through a long period of rehab after an auto accident. Instead of doing a factory reset when he returned the Ipad he did a restore. I am now stuck with an Ipad which Itunes on my Macbook/Mini will not recognize. The system software on the MB/Mini can be upgraded but the cost of software updates is not very attractive since the software is working well with the version I have. Ipad IOS 10 doesn't have any features that I need/want and functioned very well with IOS 9. I did try restoring my Ipad using a Mac running newer system software that recognized the Ipad in Itunes but it was not successful. Is there any way to get my Ipad back to IOS 9 short of buying a new Ipad 2 with factory installed IOS 9 and selling my old one e.g. jailbreak it?

You might want to start with a web search for possible directions that are already published such as this:
https://www.google.ca/search?client=...Lcne8Ae46ZaQCQ

Then such hits will show some possible methods such as:
How to downgrade iOS 10 - how to go back to iOS 9: Reinstall iOS 9 - How to - Macworld UK

I'm not sure Apple is still "signing" the latest .ipsw file for that model, but I'm guessing they are as it's the last version those iDevices can use the can't go the iOS 10.x route.

I'm also wondering if using iMazing could help but you might want to use it regardless:
https://imazing.com/?gclid=Cj0KEQiAk...6dUaAvii8P8HAQ

You can find the appropriate .ipsw file at several places like:
https://ipsw.me

I have no idea why Apple has to make going back an iOS version or so has to such a PITA or even impossible.

Good luck.

EDIT:
Bummer!! It looks like the iOS 9.x .ipsw file are listed as "Unsigned IPSW" at the download site:
https://ipsw.me

Next step is to do a search on installing a Unsigned IPSW file.

Try this that seems may have some suggestions:
https://www.google.ca/search?client=...BvHe8Aeb96nQCQ

Maybe even this:
Prometheus: Upcoming Tool Will Allow Users to Downgrade or Upgrade to Unsigned iOS Firmware Version
Prometheus Tool Will Allow Users to Downgrade to Unsigned iOS Firmware Version

PS: I just noticed in the comments section that some Unsigned IPSWs are able to still work as of a few days ago that's linked to the ipsw.me download site, see:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ui9R...nel=DaHarteLad

Gheese, you're a PITA Apple!!!

Sorry for all the add-on additions here.

I've tried a bunch of them, and none that I've found work. The whole "Apple isn't signing that" is a lame excuse. I can downgrade the OS on my Mac, I should be able to run what I want on my iPhone or iPad. If it were at all possible, I'd want to be running iOS6 on my iPhone.

I agree as I mentioned, but check my recent additions above.

Apple's the BIG BOSS these days now!! ;(

And their "it's for you own protection" for their updates is an even more pathetic excuse and a terrible one-way only method I'd say!!!

From this page:
How to Downgrade to an Older Version of iOS on an iPhone or iPad

I'm wondering if the SHSH blob can still be saved and used with TinyUmbrella. I'm not sure… ?????

But some info here:
https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/42301/tinyumbrella
and here:

And maybe something useful here: ???

Do you have multiple backups in iTunes? Been a while since I did a restore but thought I remember seeing a few in there. Maybe an old one is there from pre iOS10?

Don't bother, as many iTunes "backup" users have unfortunately discovered, and no thanks to Apple's implementation, it doesn't include the iOS!!!

Heck, it's so bad, it doesn't even include all the user's data for God's sake. Stupid!!!

That's one reason the latest iMazing.app has become so popular, and apparently includes the existing iOS version in its backup.

Have you got an Apple Store genius or a good iOS tech in your area that may be able to help and get things resolved for you?? Worth a try I'd say.

Their advise buy another IPad and hope it has IOS 9 on it. Chances are slim since everything now has IOS 10 installed at the factory.
