Opening Ports for torrent

I have a IMAC and the apple extreme router connected to it.
I run a PC to the router for internet access. All works fine.
I am trying to run a bit torrent app on the PC however it refused to seed a torrent but it downloads them fine. I have been told I have to open ports in order for it to seed?

I am very confused how to do this, what machine I do what on etc… Can anyone walk me through it? Possibly a windows question and not the mac?

appreciate any help

Have you checked the manual and recommended settings or even the developer's support site for the software you're using or even supported hardware?

I don't know what customization you may have to do that you'll actually be able to do using an apple extreme router. As I recall they're quite limited and don't really allow much customization.

According to
"TCP: Typically, BitTorrent uses TCP as its transport protocol. The well known TCP port for BitTorrent traffic is 6881-6889 (and 6969 for the tracker port). The DHT extension (peer2peer tracker) uses various UDP ports negotiated by the peers."

Lots more hits and suggestion using your friend google here:
