Would it be a safe guess that a case built for the iPad 3 would fit the iPad 4? I'd like to get a jump on a case for the iPad 4 I per-ordered but I'd like some assurance that they didn't do any mods to the case before ordering.
According to Apple's website the dimensions are exactly the same for the 3rd and 4th gen iPads. I don't know if they changed the location of anything like the volume button or power button but I doubt they changed those. The only thing would be that the cutout for the dock connector would be bigger on the cases designed for the 3rd gen vs 4th gen.
edit: Go ahead and order the case. On Apples website they say the existing smart case will work with the 4th gen which means the power and volume buttons are in the same location.

I picked up a Gumdrop iPad 3 one for my iPad 4. Apparently even some of the iPad 2 cases fit but you do have to watch due to the difference in thickness of the iPad.
