Any experience using "My Q" Liftmaster with iPhone?
Just had a new garage door installed with a "Liftmaster" operator. I did get the internet gateway included in the package. You are supposed to be able to open your garage door through your iPhone. I tried to hook it up to my wireless modem, no luck. I phoned the support # and the tech says I need a dedicated router for this. I'm not even really sure how to do this, especially if I have to enter a bunch of IP addresses etc. Sounds like a big hassle.
Does anyone have any experience with their products?
Dedicated router sounds like they are assuming that you are coming in from the wider Net and that you will need a static IP address ??
You may also have to put the Liftmaster unit on a manual (static) IP address internally within the home network, and maybe forward some ports to it.

Thanks of the response Canada Ram.
As I figured it sounds like a hassle to try and get it to work.
I have found some reviews on "My Q" technology which are not too positive. I may just put away the gateway internet for now and wait until they get more user friendly.
After much diagnosis, he told me that I have to have a dedicated router. My wireless modem would not work with their internet gateway. I do like the idea of having an app (My Q) to open my garage door via my iPhone. You can also open the garage door from anywhere via your iPhone or through the internet and use it to turn on a light in your house. It seems to me that this system is fairly new and you have to be a real techie to hook it all up. That's not me...LOL
On the other side of the coin, even without "My Q", the garage operator has some nice features, temp, date, time displayed. Can program the door and lights to close after a certain period of time. Great feature for someone who just drives away when leaving the garage without making sure the overhead actually closes.
Of course it looks easy as per their video, but it's not that simple. It will not work with my wireless modem. I have to go out and buy a separate router as per the technician at Liftmaster.
I knew that there was a problem with the internet gateway as the lights would flash when first hooked up, then no lights at all.
I also have no clue if I can use both a wireless modem and a router on my home connection?
BTW, I'm with Shaw, so who knows what they do or don't do as far as my home internet is concerned.
